Passage 3-7 | Piltown 2-5

Yes

Our u-11 boys started their Waterford City league in Passage on the 18th April 2017. Piltown started well with a goal after three minutes Ben O’ Callaghan, following a long free in from Andrew Phelan. Passage replied with a point soon after. In the 10th minute, Passage had a long free from centre field and the ball bounced on the very firm ground straight into the Piltown net, a very unfortunate goal. Piltown replied with two 65’s from Eoin Hogan, but Passage got four more points before half time, three of them frees. Piltown pushed hard in the first half for a second goal and only for a very strong Passage keeper we would have got at least one. HT score Piltown 1-2 Passage 1-5.

The second half opened with Andrew McCarthy catching a great ball, he put it into Conor Long’s hand and Conor buried the ball into the back of the Passage net. Just after, Piltown conceded a 2nd goal from Passage and this unsettled our men. We struggled from this point to the end of the game, possibly trying too hard to get scores on the board. We did score three more points, two from Niall O’Brien and one from Henri Culleton but Passage got another point from a free and got a killer goal in the dying minutes to win the match. FT score Piltown 2-5 Passage 3-7.

Our men played well and will learn a lot from this game. Special mention must be given to our goalie, Bobby Norris – Bobby was top class in the goal and only for him Piltown would have conceded another 2 or 3 goals in the second half as the boys tried to push for a win.

Piltown panel: Bobby Norris, Shane Cronin, Liam Downey, Andrew Phelan, Charlie O’Neill, Cormac Cummins, Eoin Hogan (0-2 65’s), Niall O’Brien (0-2), Conor Hempenstall, Conor Long (1-0), Ben O’ Callaghan (1-0), Jack O’Neill, Henri Culleton (0-1), DJ Knox and Joe Cooney
