Piltown hosted Danesfort in Round 2 of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior A League on Friday the 24th March, under lights. Conditions were calm and it was a lovely evening for what turned out to be a great game of hurling.

Piltown opened the scoring with a John Kenny point from a converted free within the first minute and Danesfort followed suit with two points in the next three minutes, one from a converted free. Philly Kenny scored his first point of the evening in the fourth minute and Danesfort’s centre forward and John Kenny traded points from converted frees before Danesfort’s corner forward found the back of the Piltown net with a great strike in the 12th minute. Adam Grace, one half of the mid-field pairing with Andrew Norris, executed a fine pass to Andrew in the 13th minute & Andrew sent the ball high over the bar for a great point. John Kenny added another to his tally with a point from a converted free in the 14th minute and Danesfort responded with two points which brought us to the 21st minute. Shane Walsh, defending well all evening, found Andrew Norris in the 22nd minute and Andrew made no mistake in sending the ball over the bar. John Kenny added another from a converted free and a lovely ball sent in to the forwards was picked up by Philly Kenny who tapped it over for his second of the night. Danesfort closed out the first half with two more points, one from a converted free. HT score Piltown 0-8 Danesfort 1-7.

Danesfort opened the scoring in the second half with a point from a converted free. In the 35th minute, Ian Long won a Danesfort puckout and found the open Jamie Norris who tapped the ball over for a lovely point. No sooner did Dean Brophy come on for the injured John Brophy when he sent a lovely ball over the bar in the 38th minute. John Kenny kept the Piltown scoreboard ticking over with two more points from converted frees. Dean Brophy scored another great point in the 54th minute before John Kenny added another from a converted free. In the 56th minute, John Kenny won a breaking ball and with a quick hand pass to Pa Connolly, Pa sent in a low ball to Vinnie Long who scored a fine point. Danesfort scored three points in succession, one from a converted free but Piltown then held strong & some great defending from Shane Doody, Thomas Murray & Kieran Flynn, denied Danesfort another score before the fulltime whistle.
