Piltown 2-16 | Rower Inistioge 2-10

Yes

Our u-14 hurlers had a quick turnaround between their Feile weekend and the last round of the u-14 hurling league. The Rower Inistioge travelled to Piltown onTuesday the 20th June 2017, for what was a thrilling encounter between the two sides with Piltown emerging victorious when the final whistle sounded.
We were treated to some great hurling from both teams and what better place to be on a warm summer evening than on the sideline. The Rower Inistioge set down a marker early on with a goal in the second minute but Piltown replied with two great points from Eoin Butler out on the wing, one from a great clearance down the line from Gavin Flynn. The Rower Inistioge quickly pointed three from converted frees. However, Piltown slowly chipped away at the Rower Inistioge’s lead and in the 15th minute a great pass from Shane Morrissey found Eoin Butler for another great point from Eoin. Conor Hogan put his name on the scoresheet less than a minute later from a high ball in from Conor Power. Aaron O’Driscoll & The Rower Inistioge’s full forward traded points from converted frees which took us to the 22nd minute when Neil Moriarty won a Rower Inistioge puckout and quickly sent the ball into our full forward line & Fiachra Twohig made no mistake in putting it in the back of the net. The Rower Inistioge added another point to their tally but it was Piltown who closed out the first half with some great play from Kieran Kinsella and Charlie Coffey who assisted in some great points from Gavin Flynn and Aaron O’Driscoll. Tom Reid finished with a point from a well-taken free in the last minute. HT score: Piltown 1-8 The Rower Inistioge 1-5.

The second half was to be a repeat of the first half scoreline in that each team scored exactly what they scored in the first half. The Rower Inistioge opened the scoring with two points in the first five minutes before Conor Hogan, stepping up to take a free, found the back of the net for Piltowns’ second goal of the evening. Aaron O’Driscoll added another point from a converted free in the 40th minute. The pace of the game increased in intensity and everyone on the pitch upped their game. The Rower scored 1-2 in the space of four minutes - however, a drop in their discipline saw Piltown then add three points from converted frees, two from Aaron O’Driscoll and one from Tom Reid. The Rower Inistioge added their final point in the 53rd minute and Piltown dominated the remainder of the match. We saw some great defending from Kieran Knox, Bill Nolan and substitute Adam Walsh and a lovely ball from Adam Walsh to Aaron O’Driscoll resulted in a fine point. Neil Moriarty score two points in quick succession, one from a sideline ball from Aaron O’Driscoll and the second from a great pass from substitute Artjoms Sergejs. We had one last goal attempt from Fiachra Twohig in injury time but The Rower Inistioge defended well and Piltown settled for the resultant 65, accurately taken by Tom Reid. FT score: Piltown 2-16 The Rower Inistioge 2-10.
